Clay: infinitely moldable and malleable and can be made into some really cool stuff. And useful, pretty stuff at that. Like this:

These pieces are from Kim Westad Ceramics. Kim is a potter based in Yonkers, New York. In her shop, you will find vases, bowls, cups, even a ceramic pendant or two. Everything is hand-thrown, and the designs — like the vine on the green cup shown above — are applied by hand, so no two pieces are exactly alike.

The vases in particular are pretty stunning pieces, with dramatic folds or hand-applied designs. If you’re looking for some sort of dramatic display piece, those vases would be a good place to start. Or you could always get a cup or bowl or plate and break that out to impress the guests.
