Feeling a little grinchy? Growly? Super-stressed over the holidays and need to let off steam? Or maybe you’re just have that subversive sense of humor and need to laugh. Or maybe you need some holiday cards and you’re really not quite feeling that holiday cheer.
Have a look-see:

(My personal favorite has to be the low expectations card since that’s pretty much the story of my life.)
You’ll find these cards at Earmark Invitations. There are plenty of funny ones, including one that is a personal hygiene reminder (the drawing is hilarious).
But even if snarky cards aren’t your cup of tea, there are also journals, magnets and more, um, conventional cardsets. Maybe you’ll need some thank you notes for all those lovely presents you get this holiday season. Or maybe you’ll need a snarky card ’cause someone didn’t get you what you want. (The Screw You card, maybe?!)

The holidays are coming, and if you like your cards snarky, here’s a really good one:

I about fell out of my chair when I saw that card!
This card can be found at Carol Lee Designs on Etsy, or Hate Mail Greetings.
Most of the cards are absolutely hysterical, and they’re not really for the faint of heart. But if you speak your mind and what you speak is not always super PC, these are the perfect greetings for you.
A couple of other priceless ones:

The Etsy shop has a pretty good selection, but do check the dot-com shop (hatemailgreetings.com) for even more humorous goodness! Give a card and make people wonder about your sense of humor!

Especially when the doodles are saying something funny. Or cute. Like this:

This paperie is brought to you by Paper Skirt. Lana is the gal behind Paper Skirt, and she is based in Ottawa. Lana does a lot of gocco-ing of greeting cards, and also designs custom wedding invitations and business cards.
The drawings are cute, the sentiments simple. It’s a great combination. Do check it out.

School is starting up in most places (if it hasn’t already), and you may feel the need to get some school supplies. Well, try some nice crafty things like these:

Squirrel Woodburned Pencil Case

Little Bird Mini Notebook
You can find these goods at Cabin + Cub, based in Vancouver. In addition to the adorable pencil cases, you can also find woodburned art panels. Many items are inspired by animals and nature, and if you’re a bird fan, you’ll find lots of lovely birds.
Besides the woodburned items, there are other things such as the mini notebooks and some coasters that are gocco-printed.
It’s not too late to look cool for school … at least in the what’s-in-your-backpack area!

One of the treats I got in my August Sampler was this lovely floral card from Sugar Lily:

I’ve always been a fan of Sugar Lily. The cards are cheery and often feature beautiful patterns (I got a daisy-adorned one a while back). The ones that feature drawings or characters are whimsical and cute. Overall, the designs are clean and simple and still eye-catching.
For a sampling, check out the Howdy Chicken card and the octopus wedding card.

Have you ever heard the saying “I love you like food loves salt?”
Well, these cards take that to a whole new level:

These delightful cards are from uccello curioso, based in Los Angeles. There are a whole host of these food cards, including a few that pay homage to steamed rice, fish tacos and sushi. Yum.
All the cards are screenprinted by hand, and then watercolored individually. Lots of labor for a cute thing!
There are also other screenprinted goodies, including coasters and card sets, just in case you’re not feeling hungry.

Books come in all sizes, can be pretty to look at, multi-purpose and are all-round awesome in general. Take this sweet sampling from Providence, Rhode Island’s If’n Books + Marks:

Wood Buttonhold Stitch Photo Album

Rabid Comb Smacker Journal

Accordion Book Necklace
See? All different purposes. And all eye-catching, too.
I especially like the Smacker Journal — whose description says “We like to refer to this series as ‘The Smacker’ for the aesthetic punch it packs in its small size, but also for its ability to double as a harmless smacking tool for discourteous or bothersome cohorts.” It’s a limited edition, with only 100 available! They are exclusively sold at If’n Books’ Etsy shop.
The accordion necklaces are also pretty brilliant. Not only are they pretty cool to look at, but you never know when you will need to jot down a note. Or maybe you want to write an ode to your favorite person and give him/her the necklace as a gift. Or something like that.

Paper + sewing stuff = Very cute card. Check it out:

It’s a nice any-occasion card. Nice and bright and colorful. And the buttons are a nice touch (though I guess you have to hope they don’t get caught on the postal machine if you happen to be mailing one of these cuties!).
Several styles are available at Nissa B’s Etsy store. Nissa combines paper, fabric, buttons and other sewing materials to create all sorts of paper goods, from tags to cards.
She also makes pillows and stuffed animals, like this owl:

Maybe you can get a gift and a card at the same time. How convenient!

Ah, cats. Wonderful animals. Cute and cuddly, though they can be a little cranky, as perfectly illustrated in this stationery set from Mau Studio:

I guess if I had fur and I was damp like that, I’d be pretty unhappy too. But it’s such a great illustration.
There’s also this adorable postcard set:

Of course, it’s not all kitties and paper at Mau Studio. Not even close. You’ll also find lots of sparkly, shiny jewelry in the shop, including an array of cute flower rings.
Lastly, there are free images that you can download and use as screensavers if you want. Many of them feature original illustrations, including a few grumpy cats.
Check it out — there’s plenty of good stuff.

Ever feel like a complete dolt and felt the need to apologize to someone for it? This might be the perfect card to do it:

(Yes, I’ve felt like that many a time. Many.)
This humorous line of cards is from Mixed Species, a wacky group of guys from Corvallis, Oregon, who turn out some pretty funny stuff. And some of the modeling photos on their Etsy site are alternately disturbing — like this one — and hysterical.
You’ll find some repurposed goods, like cork coasters that have things printed on them, other cards, t-shirts and even some underwear. A lot of it probably isn’t suitable for children’s eyes, but if you like snarkiness and your humor goes in that direction, you’ll find some great stuff. After all, that’s to be expected from a place whose motto is “We go there so you don’t have to!”

There’s nothing like walking into a used bookstore or your local library and perusing all those old cloth-bound books. (Or maybe you’re lucky enough to have a bunch lying around the house). They just don’t make hardbound the same way anymore. Old cloth-bound books rock! Sometimes they’d have weird stains on the covers, but that just added to the charm.
Now, you can get some kickass journals made out of said old books. Something like this:

(The man kind of reminds me of the Monopoly guy. What a cool cover this must have been. I wonder what kind of book it was. But I digress.)
This journal comes from Los Angeles-based Tyler Bender Book Company. Tyler takes old books, painstakingly resizes some of their covers — this particular blue journal happens to be 4 x 6 inches. But there are some full-sized books; there’s a recycled Bible cover adorning one of the journals.
A variety of papers fill the books. Those papers range from the plain lined paper from your school days (college-rule? wide-rule? aaaaaah!) to colored paper to old accounting ledgers (aaaaaaah again!). And each sheet of paper is hand-cut. (Considering most of these journals have 200 pages or so, that’s a heck of a lot of cutting.)
Each book is a surprise, and they’re almost too pretty to write or draw in!

The dictionary defines “gallimaufry” as a hodgepodge. And that’s exactly what you’ll find at Gallimaufry Arts — a hodgepodge of vintage inspired pins and magnets, jewelry and nice paperie!
Take this stunning chain maille bracelet, for instance:

Or maybe you’re not really in a jewelry mood. Maybe you want something nice to doodle in, or to write a nice note to attach to a gift to a friend?

The above is from the mini book collection. They are less than 3 inches square and come in a variety of prints. You can even personalize them with a letter or number pebble for 50 cents more!
This is just a sampling of the gallimaufry at Gallimaufry Arts. Do click on over.

Fellow Sacramento mafiosa Claire recently decided to re-brand and re-open her Etsy shop, and the result is Little Lovelies Handmade.
Claire uses a lot of vintage and recycled materials to make her goods, which include pins, magnets and some of these other things:

The Miss Muffet Pin Tuffet (great name, by the way).

Got a Crush on You card set
Many items are inspired by and named after important women in her life, and should you pick up one of these items, they even come with a story behind the name. Neato.

When I was in college, I used to carry around a whole case of 3.5″ diskettes. Remember those? Burning a CD was still a newfangled craze, the Zip disk (remember that?!) was just taking hold, and no one had thought of the flash drive yet.
I wanted to be snazzy, so I always bought the colored disks. Yellow, red, blue, green … I could spot my disks a mile away. Until I left an important one in the lab, of course.
The floppy has gone the way of the dodo bird, but Acorn Studios has found a way to resurrect those little babies:

These little notebooks contain 50 pages. Perfect for quick notes. And they’re colorful, too. Maybe by some sort of karma my lost yellow disk from the lab long ago has become a notebook. Fat chance, but it’s nice to dream.
If you’re a computer fan (or geek in general), you’ll find all sorts of other cool stuff at Acorn Studios, including earrings made of keyboard keys, circuitboard earrings and keyboard magnets and cufflinks. There are even floppy disk notebooks, if you really feel like going into the wayback machine! Now those have pretty much gone the way of the dodo!
It’s always nice to know someone has managed to make old computers and junk useful. Yay!

Another excellent vendor from Handmade Parade!
Sarah is from Davis and the gal behind P Dot. The Handmade Parade was her first show!
Sarah makes all sorts of fun sewed goodies, such as reversible headbands, tissue holders, cuffs, pencil holders, and these little notepad holders, which I thought were absolutely brilliant:

Each set comes with two pencils, an eraser and a mini pen! Take some notes in style.
For more info on Sarah and P Dot, you can also check out her blog.
